This meeting was primarily a demonstration from Kenny Morison, our Chairman. However, and I’m sure Kenny wouldn’t mind me saying, this was overshadowed by the farewell to our club secretary, Billy Turnbull.Billy was one of the core founder members of the club away back in the autumn of 2006. Since then he has proved to be one of the stalwarts of SBWT always happy to give his time and energies to the club and one of the real grafters in the early days. Billy was always making sure things got done, and spreading his laughter through any, and all, of our events!Billy made the impressive and imposing lathe bed and storage unit that carried one of the club’s own lathes. We no longer have the lathe, but the “bench that Billy made” will probably outlive the club and almost certainly most of the members!!
Billy has “retired”, with his wife Christine, to Orkney, although he is more active than ever and still turning in his newly constructed workshop! He is fondly remembered, and will always be welcome if he were ever to turn up at one of our meetings…or coffee morning!
Kenny presents Billy with a turned quaich as a token gesture of the club's gratitude.
